“The Matter of Black Lives,” a collection of The New Yorker‘s groundbreaking writing on race in America—including work by James Baldwin, Toni Morrison, Ta-Nehisi Coates, Hilton Als, Zadie Smith, and more—with a foreword and edited by Dr. Jelani Cobb, 2023 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration keynote speaker. Cobb is a staff writer at The New Yorker, writing on race, history, justice, politics and democracy, as well as Columbia University's Ira A. Lipman Professor of Journalism and Dean of Columbia Journalism School. We will discuss this book by three articles at a time during the following dates.
