Generative AI hype is at a fever-pitch. Universities, too, have been caught up in this hype, and some, like Oregon State, have partnered with AI companies. As a result, academics are increasingly pressured to adopt the technology in their work–or justify not adopting it. This panel creates a space to discuss AI refusal: when, where, and why should faculty refuse AI in their teaching and research? Faculty in the social sciences and humanities will share their perspectives and answer questions about AI refusal in their academic labor.
