A work-in-progress talk by Nabil Boudraa,  Associate Professor of French and Francophone studies in the School of Language, Culture, and Society.

Since its inception,  Algerian cinema has been engaged in a constant struggle against oppression. It is a testament to the resilience of a people that refuses to be silenced by any form of rule, whether colonial or postcolonial. From the echoes of the war of independence to the challenges of the present day,  Algerian filmmakers have boldly utilized their cameras as tools of resistance.  As long as the spirit of freedom and justice burns within the hearts of its creators,  Algerian cinema will continue to stand as a powerful and unwavering force against oppression.
