Anthropology Lecture Series: The Role of Veterinarian Medicine and Multispecies Livelihoods in Ecological Rehabilitation: Pathways toward human-animal coexistence in the Anthropocene
Friday, March 10, 2023 12pm to 12:50pm
About this Event
170 SW Waldo Place, Corvallis, OR 97331
This presentation explores the role veterinarians play in fostering multispecies relations in the Anthropocene. It draws on ethnographic field research conducted from an ongoing multi-sited, multispecies, longitudinal study of wildlife rehabilitation centers in Costa Rica, Canada, and the U.S. Findings suggest that veterinarians are uniquely positioned to speak in human terms for and about nonhumans. However, they often face high emotional and financial barriers, coupled with a lack of established power structures to promote a ‘one-welfare’ approach to wildlife-human coexistence.
Free, open to all. Live and on Zoom.
