In 1872, the President of Corvallis College (later Oregon State University) charged Captain Benjamin D. Boswell to "take charge of neglected military tactics." Within a year, the informal training progressed into dedicated military science courses, and Captain Boswell was appointed the first Professor of Military Science. In 1916, this training was formalized into the Army ROTC program that has continued to produce exceptional Officers of character. This year we celebrate the 150th anniversary of Officer training at OSU with a plaque unveiling and celebration at McAlexander Fieldhouse. Generations of OSU Army ROTC Alumni will be returning to campus to celebrate this memorable event.
