Auditions for OSU Theatre’s Spring 2020 production of The Importance of Being Earnest, directed by Oregon Contemporary Theatre’s Artistic Director, Craig Willis, will be held March 1 and 2 at 6:00 pm on the Withycombe Main Stage in Withycombe Hall (2901 SW Campus Way, Corvallis OR).
Oscar Wilde’s enduring 1895 classic, The Importance of Being Earnest features the comic scheming of men-about-town, Algernon Moncrieff and Jack Worthing, as they “Bunbury” from their posh London townhouses to their sprawling country estates and eventually discover their true identities. This witty satirical romp skewers marriage, religion, politics, Victorian high society and everything in between.
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. A pdf of the script can be found online HERE. Auditions are open to all OSU students, staff, faculty, and area community members. All characters will speak in a standard British dialect.
Rehearsals for the production will begin March 30 and be scheduled Sundays 2-6 pm and Monday-Thursday 6:30-10:00 pm in Withycombe Hall. Tech weekend is May 2-3 and tech rehearsals will be May 4-6. Performances are May 7-9 and 15-17 with a pick-up rehearsal on May 14. Those cast must be available for all tech and dress rehearsals, performances, the pick-up rehearsal, and a post-show strike after the closing performance.
