Riding your bike is good for you, your environment and your wallet. With the right tools and tricks, you can commute in comfort all year round. A reluctant winter bike commuter learned some hard lessons, so you don’t have to. Find options for winter commuting gear ranging from DIY to off-the-shelf.

 

Learning Objectives:

1. Know your style: Identify your winter commute style based on distance, weather, your physical needs, and budget.

    2. Ride dry: identify top ways to stay dry when biking in rain. Example problem – chafing from wet pants.

    3. Ride warm: identify top ways to stay a comfortable temperature when riding in cold weather. Example problem – cold hands

  4.  Ride safe: recognize and avoid top hazards of biking in winter conditions – Example problems – falls due to slippery pavement, or low light.
