Progress and prospects for better climate models (and what does that even mean?)
by Gavin Schmidt, Director of the Goddard Institute for Space Studies at NASA
Abstract: Almost every paper* published in climate science claims to present results that will need to be incorporated into climate models to make them 'better'. But the question 'better for what?' rarely gets discussed. I will discuss the business of climate model development including the frustrations, the successes, the prospects for near-term improvement, what we've really learned over the last ten years, and what might really improve over the next ten.
