DESCRIPTION:Joel Smith\, Florida State University\n\nRedox Economic Alkaloi
d Synthesis\n\nAbstract: Biologically active alkaloids continue to serve a
s a means of biomedical discovery in addition to serving as forcing functi
ons for the invention of new chemical transformations. Thus\, the concise
redox-economic construction of these molecular targets in the context of m
ulti-step synthesis has remained a prevailing research focus in our lab. O
ur lab’s recent synthetic efforts related to alkaloids from the ergoline
and manzamine families of alkaloids will be discussed\, articulating the
breadth of targets that can be accessed by this strategic approach. In add
ition\, both fundamental and translational opportunities afforded by our w
ork in this area will be highlighted.
