The Geography and Geospatial Science faculty of the College of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences invite you to an Open House at our GAZE (Geospatial Analysis and visualiZation for Education) facility. The GAZE facility was designed to provide an interactive learning environment for visualization and analysis of geospatial data through the use of a “Hyperwall” as well as other hands-on learning tools such as an Omniglobe (a spherical display system for global data), Augmented Reality Sandbox, and a Virtual Reality System. All of these interactive learning experiences will be available to participants!
Join us for the public launch of the 2018 edition of the Atlas of the Pacific Northwest produced by the Institute for Natural Resources and the OSU Libriaries and Press! More than 100 interactive maps that cover all of Oregon, Washington, and Idaho have been assembled and presented for the first time in a digital atlas format. Eight chapters cover regional topics including water, culture and history, population and housing, outdoor recreation and more. The print edition of Atlas of the Pacific Northwest, first published in 1961, went through nine editions, and was a perennial bestseller for OSU Press.
Interactive Demos of the online Atlas of the Pacific Northwest (PNW) on the Hyperwall in Strand Hall 361 will be held at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Professor Bo Zhao will provide an introduction to the Atlas of the PNW project at the 10 am demo.
There will be ongoing demos of the Omniglobe, Augmented Reality Sandbox and Virtual Reality System.
OSU is celebrating its 150th anniversary with a year-long series of events, including four festivals. These festivals recognize that Oregon State is one of only two universities in the U.S. that have been honored with land, sea, space and sun grant designations. This event is part of the OSU150 Land Grant Festival running October 1 through 17. Learning, discovery and service to all people will always drive us to make our world better.
