DESCRIPTION:Speaker Information\nSanjit K. Mitra\nUniversity of California\
 , Santa Barbara\, California\nUniversity of Southern California\, Los Ange
les\, California\n\nAbstract\nPolyphase decomposition of a sequence was ad
vanced to develop computationally efficient interpolators and decimators\,
and has also been used to design computationally efficient quadrature-mir
ror filter banks. The polyphase decomposition represents a sequence into a
set of sub-sequences\, called polyphase components. However\, the polypha
se components do not exhibit any spectral separation. In this talk\, we fi
rst review the concept of structural subband decomposition\, a generalizat
ion of the polyphase decomposition\, which decomposes a sequence into a se
t of sub-sequences with some spectral separation that can be exploited adv
antageously in many digital signal processing applications. We then outlin
e some of the applications of the structural subband decomposition\, such
as\, efficient design and implementation of FIR digital filters\, developm
ent of computationally efficient decimators and interpolators\, subband ad
aptive filtering\, and fast computation of discrete transforms.\n\nSpeaker
