Colonialism's Typhoons and the Creation of Racialized Oceanic Labor in the Asian Pacific

Professor Jason Chang, associate professor of history and Asian/Asian American Studies at the University of Connecticut, shares new research spanning the 16th to 20th centuries marking a period of political, climactic, and economic transformation that illustrates why imperial fleets turned to disposable Asian labor for their commercial fleets in the Pacific.
