Join the University Exploratory Studies Program (UESP) and the Career Development Center for an engaging, hands-on session designed to help you uncover opportunities, build confidence, and take real steps toward your future!
This 90‑minute interactive workshop is open to all students, whether you're brand new to career exploration or looking to sharpen your networking skills before the upcoming career fairs and Summer 26 Job Shadowing Opportunity. Stop by for a quick three minutes or hang out for the full 90, jump in and out whenever you need!
Workshop Flow: Thursday, Feb. 5th in the Willamette East Classroom
- 11 a.m.: Arrive, get snacks, settle in
- 11:05 a.m.: Overview of the Summer Job Shadow Program with Wendy
- 11:15 a.m.: Interactive presentation & Q&A
- 12:00 p.m.: Action Working Session
What You’ll Learn
- Find and reach out for informational interviews that actually lead to connections
- Identify and pursue job shadowing opportunities, including OSU’s Summer Job Shadow Program (opening March 2nd)
- Talk with recruiters confidently, what to say, what to ask, and how to make a strong first impression
- Prepare for career fairs: reviewing employers ahead of time, what to bring, and how to approach booths
- Navigate first-day jitters and communicate your goals professionally
- Learn how the Career Development Center and UESP can support you
What You’ll Do
- A brainstormed list of employers, people, and industries you want to reach out to
- A set of custom questions for informational interviews
- The framework for a simple “elevator pitch”
- Actionable plans for job shadowing local, virtual, or OSU‑supported
- Time with career staff and peers to turn your ideas into a concrete plan
Who You’ll Meet
- Wendy, the Job Shadow Coordinator, will walk you through how the summer program works and how students get matched with employers
- Career Development Center staff will offer tips, feedback, and hands-on help
- Peers trained in résumé and exploration support will be available during work time
- UESP Advisors will provide assistance with generating questions and developing your plan
