DESCRIPTION:Eric Smoodin\, professor of film studies at UC Davis\, joins us
for a lecture on a classic horror film.\n\n \n\n“Women came out trembli
ng\, men exhausted.” That’s how one reviewer described the effect of F
rankenstein at its 1931 opening in New York City. But the Hollywood studio
that produced the film\, Universal\, lived up to its name by having an in
ternational audience in mind. I will assess the impact of this canonical h
orror film on diverse groups of viewers in places as disparate as Kansas C
ity\, Berlin\, London\, and Paris\, and examine some of the relationships
 between cinema\, journalism\, public relations\, government\, and the movi
e-going public. \n\n \n\nFree and open to the public. Refreshments provide
d.\n\n \n\nAccommodation requests related to a disability can be made by c
 ontacting Molly McFerran\, 541-737-3244 or molly.mcferran@oregonstate.edu.
