Critical Questions Series: Trans Hermeneutics and the Pardoner's Holes: Beyond Mutilation
Wednesday, February 12, 2025 4pm to 5pm
About this Event
2501 SW Jefferson Way, Corvallis, OR 97331
Join Dr. Micah Goodrich, assistant professor of English at Boston University, for the School of Writing, Literature, and Film's winter Critical Questions lecture.
What happens when we, as literary scholars, approach Chaucer's Pardoner - his description, prologue, and tale - from a trans perspective? Many scholars have suggested that the Pardoner's gendered and sexual ambiguity is part of reading him. Goodrich proposes that instead of reading the Pardoner as trans, we can read the Pardoner "like trans readers" or against a cisnormative interpretative reading practice.
