Critical Questions Series with Prof. Rebecca Olson: Death as Preservation in The Winter's Tale
About this Event
2501 SW Jefferson Way, Corvallis, OR 97331
This talk by Professor Rebecca Olson of the School of Writing, Literature, and Film explores the early modern concept of preservation: a state that was neither illness nor wellness, but a reprieve from both degeneration and reproduction. As Olson demonstrates, a more historicized reading of Shakespeare’s late romance The Winter’s Tale, which foregrounds and celebrates preservation, can help expand modern ideas associated with wellness and its absence, including languishing and radical self-care.
