Join the College of Engineering for the 2021 Dean's Distinguished Lecture with Reginald DesRoches, Rice University provost and professor of civil and environmental engineering, and of mechanical engineering.

One of the most devastating natural disasters in modern times, the 2010 Haiti earthquake resulted in an estimated 230,000 fatalities, 300,000 injuries, and 1 million people left homeless. DesRoches, who was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, served as a key technical leader in the U.S. response to the earthquake. He will discuss the historical seeds of this unprecedented disaster and illustrate how the earthquake reveals that history is not confined to the past, but continues to influence the lives of Haitians today.

Free and open to the public.
