Join faculty leaders Jason McCarley (CLA) and Hathai Sangsupan (COS) to learn more about this six-credit, two-week, faculty-led program in Thailand where participants will delve into the minds of elephants and explore how Thai communities are working to protect and restore biodiversity, June 24-July 8.

Thailand is renowned for its culture, natural beauty, and biodiversity. During this study abroad program, we will explore Thailand's biodiversity through the eyes of the nation's most iconic native species, the Asian elephant, and from the communities who are working to conserve their natural riches by balancing the needs of humans, ecosystems and wildlife. We do this through two distinct and complementary courses:

  • The Mental Life of Elephants will focus on the psychology of the Asian elephant.
  • Community-based Conservation and Ecological Restoration will apply concepts from biology, ecology and the social sciences to examine the challenges confronting communities engaged in biodiversity conservation and restoration.
  • Macy Greif
