Fruitfulness is an important predictor of yield in grapevines. We often do not think of the impacts that vineyard management practices have on floral development and yield. However, research is being conducted by Oregon State University to understand yield potential. This workshop will provide you with information about bud fruitfulness, how it is formed, and what effects vineyard practices such as pruning method, vigor level, and N fertilization have on yield potential and yield at harvest. This workshop includes a field visit to a trial site where cane- and spur-pruned Pinot noir vines are being compared so that you can observe the effects first-hand.
