Please share and attend the local Corvallis Hiroshima Nagasaki Commemoration events on Aug. 7 and Aug. 9, including an exhibit at the Corvallis Museum open now through Aug. 7.   Please help the harms of nuclear weapons be seen so that they may never be used again.

Please join us to recommit to peace and problem solving of the planetary polycrisis amid the tragedies wrought by nuclear weapons and war. The local annual Corvallis Commemorations of Hiroshima and Nagasaki includes two free public events and an exhibit of posters created by the Hiroshima Peace Museum on display at the Benton County Corvallis Museum from July 29 until Aug. 7 (note: the Museum is closed on M and T). 

On Friday, Aug.7  from 6:30 p.m., until dusk our community will gather for reflection and education at the local Corvallis - Hiroshima - Nagasaki Commemoration at Howland Plaza in Riverfront Park on 1st & Madison, Corvallis, Oregon. Origami peace crane folding, Koto music, an educational display of actual photographs and tabling by community groups begins at 6:30. The formal  program begins at 7 pm, with the Corvallis Mayor for Peace, Charles Maughan and keynote speaker Dr Vincent Intondi, Executive Director of the Oregon Physicians for Social Responsibility, the Oregon health nonprofit that partners with the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons. Local community peace advocates and OSU students will participate with music by Masumi Timson, traditional Koto instrumentalist and Halie Loren, internationally recognized singer. The events are sponsored by a consortium of local grassroots groups in the Hiroshima Nagasaki Planning Committee and the OSU Peace Studies program. The events conclude with a procession led by the Dances of Universal Peace to the new bridge to view a flotilla in the Whilamut (Willamette) River evoking the floating lantern ceremonies (Toro Nagashi) held in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. 

On Sunday Aug, 9 from 1-3 p.m. at the Corvallis Museum, join us for an all ages  Sadako Family Peace Day for more art, music, movement, and a children's story reading.
