PacWave is the United States’ only grid-connected, pre-permitted, open-ocean wave energy test facility, located seven miles off the coast of Newport, Oregon. Developed and operated by Oregon State University with primary funding from the U.S. Department of Energy, PacWave provides a full-scale, real-world environment for testing, research, and demonstration of wave energy and related technologies. Its mission is to advance national and international marine energy industries on their path to commercialization while supporting cutting-edge research that drives innovation. As a globally significant test site, PacWave plays a key role in accelerating the clean energy transition through ocean power.
