Topic: Methane and Fluid Seepage Offshore Oregon

Methane seeps and fluid venting along the Cascadia margin are windows into complex interactions between geology, chemistry, and biology on the seafloor. Offshore Oregon, these systems host dynamic habitats that support unique benthic communities while also influencing ocean chemistry and carbon cycling. Recent mapping, imaging, and sampling campaigns have revealed new seep sites, fluid pathways, and geologic controls that shape their distribution. This presentation will highlight results from recent expeditions, including multibeam sonar mapping, ROV video surveys, and geochemical analyses, to illustrate how seepage processes link tectonics, fluid flow, and ecosystem function.
