Speaker: Sam Gurr, Assistant Professor, Department of Fisheries, Wildlife, and Conservation Sciences, Hatfield Marine Science Center, Oregon State University
Topic: Aquaculture amidst global change: From multi –omics to organismal response in shellfish models
The Gurr Lab takes an integrative approach to tackle pressing questions facing sustainable seafood production. A pillar of their research employs abiotic challenges (hormesis, simulated transplant,
and cross-/multigenerational) to characterize acclimatory and adaptive traits underpinning response to stimuli and whether constitutive or biphasic dose-dependent patterns can benefit production of economic species. At OSU Coastal Oregon Marine Experiment Station, the Gurr lab works collaboratively with the
Pacific Oyster Genomic Selection team to challenge selectively-bred oyster families and collect cellular and -omics data key to link function to phenotypic outcome.
