HMSC Research Seminar-Professor Dr. Konrad Ott from the University of Kie

Ocean Ethics, United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 14 and the Kiel Approach to Sustainability

Environmental ethics is going to apply its general value categories to challenges of ocean stewardship. By doing so, it contributes to a deeper understanding of concepts and targets of the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14.  It can be argued that SDG 14 implicitly presupposes the concept of strong sustainability. Moreover, the inspiring metaphor of "healthy ocean" can be interpreted in the spirit of Aldo Leopold. These ethical principles and concepts are grounding the interdisciplinary approach of "Future Ocean Sustainability" at Christian-Albrechts-University at Kiel.
