Speaker: Cheryl Barnes, Integrated Marine Fisheries Lab, Coastal Oregon Marine Experiment Station, Oregon State University’s Hatfield Marine Science Center
Topic: Navigating uncertainty through stakeholder engagement and integrated approaches to fisheries science
The marine ecosystems that support groundfish stocks are spatially expansive, temporally variable, and highly complex. This presentation will highlight the need for inclusive, transdisciplinary collaborations to maximize the quality and relevance of fisheries science in the North Pacific. By integrating diverse areas of expertise from academics, resource managers, and stakeholders, we can more effectively fill informational voids, gain insights into population and community dynamics, and inform decision-making that promotes sustainable fisheries. We will explore several highly collaborative projects that have generated meaningful products for use in stock assessments and ecosystem-based management.
