Speaker: Evan Hayduk, Council Coordinator, MidCoast Watershed Council

Topic: Restoring Watersheds Takes Partnerships: Exploring the MidCoast Watersheds Council’s Work

The MidCoast Watersheds Council (MCWC) is a non-profit organization based in Newport that has been working for over 25 years to protect and restore nearly one million acres on the central Oregon Coast. We work to ensure our watersheds produce clean water, provide habitat for fish and wildlife species and support a healthy ecosystem, economy, and culture here. Evan Hayduk, Watershed Council Coordinator since 2016, will present on the work that MCWC has done, focusing on the 2020 Yaquina Tidal Restoration Project upstream of Toledo, Oregon as an example of how a project happens from start to finish: prioritization, planning, design, fundraising, implementation and monitoring. The MCWC relies on partnerships with local, state, tribal and federal agencies, as well as collaboration with students, researchers, private landowners and the community to accomplish the work we do on the landscape. Evan will highlight monitoring needs in the years to come as well as other ways in which the HMSC community can get more involved in our watershed conservation and restoration efforts.
