Topic: Open ocean ecology shapes life history evolution in long-lived mammals

Marine mammals undertake some of the most extraordinary migrations on the planet to eat and avoid being eaten. They make behavioral decisions based on the ecology of their prey and predators, all while keeping within the confines of their physiological limits.  I will discuss how our lab group explores predator-prey interactions in the open ocean by attaching electronic instruments to seals and monitoring their vital rates with mark-recapture techniques.
