How does Taiwan combat COVID-19 and revive its economy?
Wednesday, May 19, 2021 6pm to 7:15pm
About this Event
Taiwan’s response to COVID-19 was ranked as among the Top 5 countries by Bloomberg Economics in April 2021. There are five major moves underpinning Taiwan’s success of COVID-19 containment: SARS experience, rapid response, early deployment, prudent actions and transparency. In addition, Taiwan employs its advantage in information and communication technology to facilitate border control, contact tracing and tracking, precision testing and home quarantine. The successful COVID-19 containment has substantially reduced the government stimulus package to revive Taiwan’s economy, spending about 2% of GDP in 2020, much less than many developed countries.
Dr. Ming Lien is currently the Associate Dean of College of Innovation, Director of Taiwan Studies Center, and Professor at Department of Public Finance, National Chengchi University, where he teaches health systems, health economics, and econometrics.
