Second Generation Active Learning: Online Teaching Methods that Build and Use Student Societies
Ben is the Instructional Manager and a Lecturer at the University of Washington Department of Biology. His focus has been on teaching inclusively and rigorously using active-learning and ambitious teaching principles. In addition to teaching and overseeing courses in Biology and Education, he has NSF-sponsored research projects in authentic research-based lab experiences and graduate education in for teaching careers. As a straddler of the science/education divide, he tries to help science teachers understand sociocultural learning and bring the unique problems of STEM teaching into the foreground of education. He happily adds that his first research project was in the Dept of Biochemistry & Biophysics at OSU many, many years ago.
