Mammalian Reproduction:

Female and Male Allocations of Time and Energy, Alternating Capital and Income Investments

George James (Jim) Kenagy is an Emeritus Professor of Biology and Curator of Mammals with the University of Washington. His career research pursuits have ranged across the interface of ecology, behavior, and physiology, with special attention to the perspective of the whole organism in its environment as a product of evolutionary processes. His presentation will address energy allocation for reproduction across the broad context of mammals in general, pointing out the contrast between females and males with regard to their commitments of time and energy and the alternation between accumulation and expenditure of energy. As a special example, he will review the impact of reproduction on the daily and annual energy budgets of golden-mantled ground squirrels.
