About this Event
Understanding marine community ecology using fossils and food webs
Dr. Roxanne Banker is a marine scientist with broad interests in ecology, focusing on the evolution of ecological systems. Her current work is focused on investigating the relationship between community food web structure and dynamics, such as long term stability. She combines mathematical models with fossil data to reconstruct food web relationships of ancient communities, which provides insight into how food web structure has changed over evolutionary timescales, and in response to global changes in climate or other ecological events (e.g., biological invasion). She is particularly interested in how understanding the evolution, assembly, and stability of past ecosystems during times of climatic upheaval can help inform scientific understanding of the current climate crisis.
