Stoking the Fire examines the politics and possibilities of Cherokee writing between Oklahoma statehood in 1907 and tribal reorganization in the early-1970s. The book explores the multiple and complicated ways four writers continued to remember, (re)imagine, and enact Cherokee nationhood in the absence of a functioning Cherokee state.
