The College of Forestry owns and manages about 15,000 acres of forest land around the state. You will tour 6,500 acre McDonald Forest which is located on the northern edge of the City of Corvallis. This is a working forest and managed for the last 80 years for teaching & public engagement, research, recreation and to provide revenue to the College of Forestry through timber harvests. The Forest receives heavy recreation use with over 155,000 user-visits per year. The tour will take you to stops that include recent timber harvests, forest thinning, reforestation, recreation, and wildlife. The tour is hosted by Stephen Fitzgerald, Director of the OSU Research Forests.
OSU is celebrating its 150th anniversary with a year-long series of events, including four festivals. These festivals recognize that Oregon State is one of only two universities in the U.S. that have been honored with land, sea, space and sun grant designations. This event is part of the OSU150 Land Grant Festival running October 1 through 17. Learning, discovery and service to all people will always drive us to make our world better.
