A 6-bit Audio DAC showcasing the first order ZMEE(Zero Mean Mismatch Error Encoding) Mismatch Shaping

Multi-bit DACs are often used to achieve high out-of-band noise suppression. However, component mismatch necessitates mismatch shaping schemes, like data-weighted averaging. Further, these techniques become exponentially complex for high-resolution DACs, since they often require conversion from binary coded signals to thermometer coded ones before applying such a scheme. In this project, we showcase the first order ZMEE(Zero Mean Mismatch Error Encoding) Mismatch Shaping implemented in an Audio DAC. We use an architecture with 3rd order ∆∑ noise shaping, 256X OSR and 6-bit R-DAC to highlight the effectiveness of the new mismatch shaping algorithm.
