Title: Modeling and simulation with Bioheat Transfer (Pennes) Equation
Abstract: The bioheat transfer equation is a partial differential equation of parabolic type which includes an additional term that accounts for heat transfer due to blood flow through tissue. In this presentation, we will present our research into mixed finite element methods for modeling this equation, including applications of heat transfer such as modelling tumor ablation (i.e. extreme heat) and frostbite (i.e. extreme cold). The presentation will also include a summary of some of the academic literature, including both the historical background and modern research into homogenization techniques for the bioheat transfer equation.
