Music a` la Carte: Jonas Myers, piano
About this Event
2501 SW Jefferson Way, Corvallis, OR 97331
Jonas Myers is a jazz pianist from Seattle who has been performing professionally since his early teens. After studying literature and creative writing at Whitman College, Jonas moved back to Seattle and became a full-time musician, appearing regularly at major Seattle venues as both a solo artist and a bandleader. His group The Walking Hat Trio played a KNKX studio session in 2019. In 2020, he released an album of original music titled “Driving Home.” Before the pandemic, Jonas performed three nights a week at Seattle’s famous Canlis piano bar. In 2021 he moved to Corvallis, where he is now a second-year MFA candidate in the creative writing program at OSU.
In this, Myers' second appearance on the Music a` la Carte concert series, he will perform works by some of the most influential composers in jazz history, including Duke Ellington, John Coltrane, and Thelonious Monk. In keeping with the jazz traditions of improvisation and harmonic reinvention, his renditions will be highly spontaneous, personalized takes on these time-tested tunes.
