About this Event
The OSU Album Club is back, virtually! Join Director of Popular Music and Performing Arts Bob Santelli, in listening to and discussing some of the greatest music albums of all time.
On Tuesday, Nov. 16, Bob will talk about the Original Broadway Cast Recording of West Side Story, featuring music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. The musical was inspired by William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet," but the story is set in the 1950's in the Upper West Side of New York, in a multiracial, blue collar neighborhood. It explores the long-time rivalry between two teenage street gangs with members of different ethnic background. The musical ran for 732 performances on Broadway before going on tour, and was nominated for Tony Awards, including Best Musical in 1958. A 1961 musical film adaptation starred Natalie Wood and Richard Beymer and won ten Tony Awards, including Best Picture.
Album Club is free, open to all, and meets remotely via Zoom. Registration is required.
