Former Beaver and NFL defensive tackle, Esera Tuaolo, kept parts of his life hidden during a successful nine season pro football career. A culture of discriminatory locker room talk and fear of losing his livelihood kept him from coming out until 2002, after he retired from the league.
Since then, the sports star has worked to ensure that future LGBTQ athletes are welcomed and treated with respect, in both professional and youth athletics programs.
Discover his work with his nonprofit, Hate is Wrong, which delivers inclusion-based education across the country and seeks to end bullying among youth. OSU changemaker Tuaolo joins College of Liberal Arts Professor Susan Shaw for a conversation on April 21 at 5 p.m. PT.
