Seventeen Years of Atmospheric Research on the Summit of Mt. Bachelor
I started research on the summit of Mt. Bachelor in 2004 to understand the global transport of pollution, especially pollution transported from Asia. Since that time, we have published over 50 papers, which have been cited over 2500 times. The research has gone beyond our original goals (long-range transport of pollution) and included additional topics such as the carbon-cycle, meteorology, aerosol optical properties, the chemistry of wildfire smoke and aerobiology. We have also collaborated with more than 35 different institutions (including OSU) that have either made their own measurements at the summit or used our data. We have also collaborated with OSU-Cascades on teacher education programs at Mt. Bachelor. In this talk I will highlight some of our discoveries made at the Mt. Bachelor Observatory (MBO) over the years and discuss ideas for future research opportunities and discoveries.
