Alex Wong

Research in the Department of Botany and Plant Pathology covers a wide range of subjects including ecology, evolution, floristics, cell biology and plant disease management. Three graduate students from the Department of Botany and Plant Pathology at Oregon State University will present short overviews of their research.

Presentation 1: “Exploring Douglas fir-fungal symbioses across the Oregon Cascades”

Fungal symbionts can be beneficial, harmful or might have no effect on their associated tree host. I study how the nature of these plant-fungal associations change at different elevations in the Cascade Mountain Range.

Presentation 2: “Assessing plant community responses to conifer removal.”

Oregon’s Native Flora, Restoration, and the OSU Herbarium.

Presentation 3: “It's lit: The potential of using UV-C light to manage vineyard diseases"

Bright lights, big ideas? The need for more sustainable pest management strategies, and the feasibility of using ultraviolet light to manage powdery mildew of grapes in Oregon.

Science Pub is co-sponsored by Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI), Old World Deli and Oregon State University.
