Dr. Simon Weston (ExxonMobile) Seminar
Bio: Simon Weston is a Senior Research Associate at the Corporate Strategic Research Labs of ExxonMobil Research and Engineering and dedicated to creating new materials for application in molecular separations, storage and catalysis. Although originally trained as an organic chemist, he has a multidisciplinary background in coordination chemistry, inorganic chemistry, high throughput experimentation, informatics and CO2 capture research. He has led several multi million-dollar research teams bridging industrial and academic work with a focus on how scientific fundamentals can lead us to better materials for a given application.
Abstract: I will give some selected highlights of my journey in porous materials research at ExxonMobil, moving through organic chemistry, inorganic hydrothermal synthesis of zeolites, high throughput experimentation, informatics and finally to CO2 capture and metal organic framework materials.
