In this community dialogue, we will explore the impacts of racial discrimination, focusing on the experiences within LGBTQ+ communities. We will begin by examining racial discrimination as a concept, followed by a brief historical overview highlighting the experiences and contributions of Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous People of Color (QTBIPOC). Together, we will reflect on how racial and sexual orientation socialization has shaped our perspectives, as well as the standards of love, beauty, and belonging we hold for ourselves and others.

Community Dialogues seek to cultivate connection and deepen understanding, foster curiosity, and build empathy through exploration of critical and contentious issues. This series provides space for participants to practice dialogue and deliberation skills. This dialogue centers colorism, culture, and sexual orientation, using storytelling and interactive activities to support learning, reflection, and shared meaning-making. Participants will leave with a deeper understanding of how racism and colorism operate within LGBTQ+ communities, as well as ideas and tools for contributing to a more inclusive and affirming future.

This is a 2-hour event with catering; we ask that participants stay for the full duration to respect the dialogic process. Participants must arrive no later than 4:25 p.m. Registration is highly encouraged!
