 effective or actual extinction in all estuaries between southern British C
 olumbia and Morro Bay\, California due to a blood sucking Asian parasite\,
  Orthione griffenis. Our detection methods seem to fail. Responses to this
  invasion include a search for refuge U. pugettensis populations and effor
 ts to discover how this new invader finds and destroys its new host.
