DESCRIPTION:Join us in celebrating the Oregon State University Internationa
l Film Festival\, organized and hosted by the School of Language\, Culture
\, and Society in partnership with the School of Writing\, Literature\, an
d Film. Founded in 2009\, the annual festival showcases different perspect
ives in contemporary filmmaking from around the world.\n\n \n\nFilm Synops
is: Tempestad is a 2016 Mexican documentary film directed by Tatiana Huezo
. Through a subjective and emotional journey\, this film conveys the paral
ysing power of fear: fear as a sickness that prevents you from taking a st
and on your life\, on the future of your children\; which clouds your abil
ity to dream and grow.\n\nA morning on a quite normal day: Miriam is arres
ted at her workplace and is accused\, without proof\, of “people traffic
king”. The violence she suffered and was exposed to during her imprisonm
ent has left a profound gap in her life.\n\nAdela works as a clown in a tr
avelling circus. Ten years ago\, her life was irreversibly transformed\; e
very night during the show\, she evokes her missing daughter\, Monica. Tem
pest is the parallel journey of two women. Mirror-like\, it reflects the i
mpact of the violence and impunity that afflict Mexico.\n\nThrough their v
oices\, we are drawn into the heart of their feelings\, steeped in loss an
 d pain\, but also love\, dignity and resistance.\n\n \n\nSuggested donatio
n is $5 for the general public and free for anyone with an Oregon State Un
iversity ID\, Oregon State University alumni\, and veterans.
