DESCRIPTION:Effects of Instructional Design and Emotional State on Performa
 nce\, Mediated by Interest and Attention\n\nThe aim of this study is to de
 termine the effect of instructional design and emotional state on performa
 nce\, considering interest and attention as mediators. To identify this ef
 fect\, a Structural Equation Model (SEM) is applied to analyze individual 
 performance based on five variables: information representation\, emotiona
 l valence\, pupil size\, alpha power\, and task completion time. The SEM p
 rovides a more robust prediction of performance by including behavioral me
 trics than solely from self-report methods\, which may provide biased resu
 lts. Specifically\, eye-tracking and electroencephalography technology wer
 e used to measure pupillary response and brain frequency while participant
 s performed tasks on a computer. Results suggest that both instructional d
 esign and emotional state have significant effects on performance\, but in
 structional design has the highest influence. Compared to instructions in 
 text\, instructions in pictures reduce task completion time\, yielding hig
 h performance. Experiencing positive emotions\, rather than negative emoti
 ons\, reduce task completion time\, improving performance. Interest and at
 tention mediate performance by a significant relationship. This work allow
 s instructors control the conditions of the learning environment in order 
 to improve desired outcomes.
