Individuals can often be tasked with managing projects whether they have specific training in this discipline or have the title of Project Manager. This session will introduce project management as defined by the Project Management Institute (PMI), with a specific focus on the Initiating and Planning process groups, where over 50% of the work is done to set the stage for managing scope, budget and schedule. You will achieve the following outcomes: understand the high-level project management process; approach projects in an organized and systematic function; initiate and plan projects effectively prior to starting the work; and an overview of PM tools used or available. Additionally, you will learn some of the different configurations and offerings industry and institutions provide for project management resources and offices. You will have the opportunity to engage with your colleagues and participate in a project management co-design session to provide your input on what a supportive and effective project management resource in higher education could look like!
