Understanding Technical and Management Engineering Career Tracks: A Panel Discussion with Engineers from Boeing, Intel, and Portland General Electric
Thursday, April 15, 2021 4pm to 5:30pm
About this Event
As engineers move along in their careers, sometimes different professional paths appear. Due to a company’s organizational structure, personal ability, and/or interest, engineers may consider a technical career path, or a path more geared toward management of teams and organizations. Each “track” has its own opportunities and challenges, and it is possible to practice effective leadership in both arenas. Through personal insights and perspectives with current engineers from Boeing, Intel, and Portland General Electric, this session will delve into the differences and overlaps between technical and management career paths for engineers, and attendees will get a better understanding of which track may suit their goals, abilities, interest, and leadership styles. Attendees will also be able to ask their own questions of the panelists! Open to all engineering students of all majors.
Panelists include: Ian Gilkerson, senior manager of product development at Boeing; Julie Fleischer, program manager at Intel; David Beach, principal engineer at Portland General Electric.
