About this Event
2030 SE Marine Science Dr, Newport, OR 97365
Hosted by Allison Pyrch
Newport, Oregon - The Oregon Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Portland Post of the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) will be hosting a community awareness event to highlight seismic risks and vulnerabilities in Oregon. We are partnering with Oregon State University - hatfield Center, the Cities of Newport and Lincoln City and Lincoln County for the event. OSU has donated the theater space to present a showing of the Oregon Public Broadcasting and Oregon Field Guide documentary UNPREPARED. A panel of local engineers and emergency managers as well as Allison Pyrch, a geotechnical engineer featured in the documentary, will be available for questions following the film. The panel will answer questions about the Cascadia Event as well as other local seismic risks and how Newport and Oregon are preparing. The event is free and open to all ages. Door prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the event.
The award winning UNPREPARED documentary highlights our seismic risks in Oregon and the potential for major disruption after the expected 9.0 Cascadia earthquake and tsunami. It also starts the conversation about what we as Oregonians can do to be more prepared, both individually and as a community. The trailer for the documentary can be found here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g3NlCXA6_kE
