Using GPUs to Speed Up and Innovate Health Research

These are just a few examples in which GPUs are driving innovation in health research. In today’s college seminar, Zoe Ryan and Andy Larkin will provide an overview of what GPUs are and why they are valuable for research. They will share examples of research projects using GPUs within the College of Health, and discuss how researchers can use supercomputing GPU resources on campus.

Speakers
Zoe Ryan is a solutions architect at NVIDIA working with higher education institutions and researchers. She joined NVIDIA in 2020 after studying computer science and mathematics at Harvey Mudd College. She has worked in GPU-accelerated high-performance computing and in embedded systems/simulations. Zoe is now focused on helping researchers to adopt and fully utilize GPU technology across domains
Andy Larkin, PhD, is an Assistant Professor Senior Research in the Spatial Health Lab at the College of Health. Dr. Larkin holds a BS in Chemistry and BioResource Research from Oregon State University, an MS in Forensic Chemistry from the University of Florida, an MPH from The George Washington University, an MS in Computer Science from Johns Hopkins University, and a PhD in Molecular Toxicology from Oregon State University. His research focuses on the intersections of environmental epidemiology, new technologies, and big data.
