Please join us for the upcoming Water Resources Seminar. Dr. Sean Fleming of Los Alamos National Laboratory; OSU; and White Rabbit LLC R&D will present "Machine Learning, Soft Computing, and Complex Systems Analysis: Emerging Approaches for Discovering and Predicting Nonlinear Phenomena in Water Resources and Climate" on Wednesday October 3rd, from 4 to 5 p.m. in Owen 106.
About Dr. Fleming:
Sean’s research focuses on applied data science and predictive analytics. Originally an exploration geophysicist with a background in both signal processing and process physics, his attention turned to complex systems in hydrology, glaciology, and climate, and subsequently to data analytics in general. His experience spans over two decades of both technical and managerial work in the private, public, academic, and NGO sectors. Sean currently operates a boutique data science consultancy. He also holds affiliate positions at Oregon State University, the University of British Columbia, and Los Alamos National Laboratory. His work has been extensively published in the peer-reviewed literature and he has been involved in several IPCC processes. Sean also has a strong interest in science outreach, recently publishing a general-audience book about the science of rivers with Princeton University Press, directly engaging with the public through events like a Smithsonian lecture, a live NPR interview, and a Corvallis Science Pub talk, and writing for Scientific American and Wired.
The seminar is free and open to the public.
We hope to see you there!
